Bangkok, 20 May 2026 — First look of trainees of Internship Phase of the 6th Vocational Training Program for Persons with Disabilities in Food & Hospitality in collaboration with Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre Chaeng Watthana, to gain hands-on experience in real workplace environment with the support of colleagues and supervisors.

The trainees have been assigned to different departments include Receptionist, Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Kitchen Department and Bakery. The program aims to develop professional skills and improve communication skills for trainees to be able to work independently.

The program reflects APCD commitment to promote the inclusive societies through vocational training program for societies where everyone can work and live together as equal.

APCD Launches Internship Phase of the 6th Vocational Training Program for Persons with Disabilities in Food & Hospitality

Bangkok, 18 May 2026 — The Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) officially commenced the internship phase of its 2026 Vocational Training Program for Persons with Disabilities in Food & Hospitality today, marking the 6th consecutive year of this program, in collaboration with Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre Chaeng Watthana.

Mr. Piroon Laismit, Executive Director of APCD, delivered the opening speech, extending a warm welcome to all trainees with disabilities as they begin their real-life work experience at the hotel.

The program was further honored by Mrs. Kanchana Ruangsiriwichayakul, General Manager of Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre Chaeng Watthana, who briefed trainees on professional conduct, workplace etiquette, rules, and protocols expected throughout their internship.

During the opening day, trainees and department managers participated in team-building activities to strengthen collaboration and teamwork. Trainees also toured and were introduced to the four departments they will be assigned to: Front Office, Housekeeping, Kitchen, and Food & Beverage.

Now in its 6th year, this program reflects APCD's ongoing mission to create meaningful opportunities for persons with disabilities, enabling them to actively participate in and contribute to society, and advancing the goal of a fully inclusive society where all individuals can work and live together as equals.

Ms. Siriporn Praserdchat facilitated the training program, she began the activity with the introduction of training program and self-introduction of attendance.


Mr. Punnapoj Phaladech, a newly Director, International Relation, Department of Empowerment of Person with Disability (DEP), made a greeting message before the main session start.

APCD conducted the Internal Capacity Building Training on UNCRPD utilization in the workplace.

On Thursday, 7 May 2026, the organization conducted an internal capacity building training session on the topic “UNCRPD utilization in the workplace” at Northgate Hotel, Bangkok.

The Session aimed to enhance staff members’ understanding and increase concrete action to utilize CRPD within APCD Context. There were 13 staffs from Administrative, Community Development, and Information & Knowledge Management Department and staff from Internation Cooperation, Department of Empowerment of Person with Disability (DEP) joined the training.

The program began with an introduction to the training program and self-introductions led by Ms. Siriporn Praserdchat (Logistics Officer, APCD), followed by a greetings message from Mr. Punnapoj Phaladech (New Director of the International Cooperation, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP).

The session continued with an introduction of the facilitator and an overview of the UNCRPD and its key concepts by Ms. Supaanong Panyasirimongkol (Networking and Collaboration Officer), together with co-facilitator Ms. Prim Kaewpradab (International Cooperation Officer) from DEP. They also delivered a session on “How to utilize UNCRPD in the workplace”, followed by a group exercise session.

Participants engaged in interactive activities, exchange the comment and feedback on various topics such Respect, Protect and fulfill, to empowerment and inclusion development of person with Disability.

The training concluded with an engaging Q&A session and a summary of key takeaways and a basic sign language learning by staff with hearing impairment from APCD with support verbal transplantation by Ms. Prim Kaewpradab. This activity not only strengthened self-awareness among staff members but also promoted mutual understanding and positive collaboration within the organization and strengthening the collaboration with Government sector. The knowledge gained from this session will contribute to fostering a more supportive and productive working environment.

APCD resource person shared his experiences and insights on Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID) with the active staff members and partner organizations of Dullabhatorn Foundation (DBF).

The first day, Mr. Somchai with the team members of DBF, had the meaningful time to review the 3-year strategic plan (2026-2028) and then learned about CBID and how to apply the knowledge.


The second day, DBF staff members along with their key partners attended the workshop on how to enhance the community and parent group through CBID approaches.

APCD supported a Partner Organization in Chiang Mai Province for Sharing Lesson Learned and Knowledge on Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID), 1-2 May 2026 in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand

APCD resource person, Mr. Somchai Rungsilp shared his experiences and insights on Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID) with the active staff members and partner organizations of Dullabhatorn Foundation (DBF).

The first day of the two-day program, Mr. Somchai with the team members of

DBF had the meaningful time to review the DBF 3-year strategic plan (2026-2028) and then learned about CBR and CBID and how to apply the knowledge to empower community and the parent’s group in DBF program.

The second day, DBF staff members along with their key partners attended the workshop on how to enhance the community and parent group through CBR and CBID approaches. The session discussed about developing furthermore closer and tangible collaboration among community, parents’ group and DBF.

APCD believes that with this collaboration will enhance the local civil society organization, parents’ group and community to promote the positive changes for persons with disabilities in Thailand

Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen presented about the internation framework in disaster risk reduction, including Sendai Framework, CRPD, and SDGs.


Mr. Somchai Rungsilp and Ms. Thorfan Dechachainimit introduced disability inclusive disaster management tools that can be used to support safe evacuation at community level.


Participants explored and tested the disability inclusive disaster management tools showcased during the break.


ACPD team, along with volunteers, conducted a fire drill exercise to allow participants to learn and practice a safe evacuation in time of emergency.

 

APCD representatives attended and presented on Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR) at the Northern Thailand disaster preparedness project.

From 28 – 30 April 2026, resource persons from APCD, led by Mr. Somchai Rungsilp (Community Development Manager), Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen (Chief of Networking & Collaboration), and Ms. Thorfan Dechachainimit, the Project Coordinator for Disability Inclusive Employment & Business (DIEB), participated in a disaster preparedness project held in Northern Thailand. The event took place in Chiang Mai Province and was organized by the Association for Mentally Illness of Thailand (AMITH). The event was supported by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP) under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of people with psychosocial disabilities, their family members, caregivers, network leaders, and volunteers across 17 provinces in Northern Thailand. The initiative also aimed to enhance knowledge and understanding of disaster risks, causes, prevention, and adaptation, while promoting mental well-being during emergencies. Participants engaged in practical training to build skills in self-reliance and safe response during crisis.

Over 370 participants attended, including network representatives, volunteers, and caregivers. APCD resource persons conducted lively sessions on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and international frameworks such as the Sendai Framework and UNDRR mechanisms. They also introduced inclusive disaster management tools, including innovative devices like walking sticks equipped with lights to support safe evacuation. In addition, a fire drill exercise was conducted, allowing participants to practice evacuation procedures and improve their readiness to respond effectively in emergency situations.

The Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) organized a “Cooking and Financial Management Training” to empower participants with practical vocational and life skills that can contribute to sustainable livelihoods and independent living.

The event was warmly welcomed by , Executive Director of APCD. The program was officially opened by , who emphasized the importance of equipping both persons with and without disabilities in APCD programs with essential skills relevant to today’s rapidly changing world.

The financial management session, titled “When Sales Grow, Manage Your Money Wisely,” was conducted by . The session provided practical knowledge on budgeting, income and expense management, saving strategies, and long-term financial planning through easy-to-understand and applicable guidance.

In addition, a hands-on cooking workshop featuring Onigiri, Seaweed-wrapped Rice Balls, and Lightly Sweet Jasmine Green Tea was led by . Participants learned about ingredient selection, preparation techniques, serving presentation, and step-by-step cooking practices in an engaging and interactive learning atmosphere.

This initiative not only enhanced participants’ vocational competencies, but also strengthened their confidence, financial management mindset, and life planning skills—important foundations for improving quality of life and promoting sustainable and inclusive development.

Thailand promotes Disability-Inclusive Sports (DIS) for Persons with Psychosocial Disabilities Through Nationwide Seminar.

On 23 April 2026 in Chiang Mai Province, the Association of the Mentally Ill of Thailand (AMITH), in partnership with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, hosted a nationwide seminar to advance Disability-Inclusive Sports (DIS) for individuals with psychosocial disabilities, their family members, and supporters, in line with the United Nations’ approach to promote physical and mental well-being, as well as resilience, of persons with psychosocial disabilities through sports.

The APCD facilitators’ team on DIS, representing the Community Development Department, led by Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen (Chief of Networking & Collaboration) and Ms. Siriporn Praserdchat (Logistics Officer), together with Mr. Thanawat Deesawat (Information & Knowledge Management Officer) from the Information and Knowledge Management Department, facilitated engaging demonstrations of Takkyu Volley (Table Tennis Volleyball), Samspel, and Dodge Bee—three inclusive sports introduced by Japanese experts through the DIS project at APCD training sessions a few years ago. Moreover, Mr. Thanawat Deesawat collected event materials, including photos and videos of the activities, while also building new networks and collaborations with media representatives from CSOs and private agencies.

At the event, there were 400 participants from northern provinces across Thailand who attended, including persons with psychosocial disabilities, their families, and supporters.

This event aimed to enhance physical and mental well-being, promote social participation, promote self-reliance, and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders nationwide. APCD and AMITH continue to work together to ensure equal opportunities and contribute to a more inclusive society.

27 April 2026, Bangkok, Thailand — A delegation from the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD), comprising Ms. Nongnuch Maytarjittipun, Mr. Noppol Ubdulsamad, and Mr. Thanawat Deesawat, recently visited the Embassy of Japan in Bangkok to pay a farewell call on Mr. SUZUKI Akiyoshi, Second Secretary and GGP (Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects) Project Leader.

The visit was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the strong partnership and mutual respect shared between APCD and the Embassy of Japan over the years. The APCD team expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Suzuki for his dedicated support and valuable collaboration throughout his tenure as GGP Project Leader.

On this occasion, the delegation also had the honour of meeting Mr. Toru Kageyama, the newly appointed successor to Mr. Suzuki. The APCD team warmly welcomed by Mr. Kageyama and expressed their eagerness to continue the meaningful cooperation between APCD and the Embassy of Japan in the period ahead.

The visit was further graced by the presence and kind blessings of H.E. Mr. OTAKA Masato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand, whose encouragement lent great significance to the occasion.

APCD looks forward to sustaining and strengthening its longstanding partnership with the Embassy of Japan, with the shared commitment to advancing the well-being and inclusion of persons with disabilities across the Asia-Pacific region.

The Asia Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) warmly welcomed a delegation from the Yeonggwang County Branch of the Jeonnam Association for Persons with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, Republic of Korea, on 27 April 2026. The visit was hosted by Mr. Piroon Laismit, who extended a warm welcome to the visitors and reaffirmed APCD's commitment to continued collaboration with partner organizations across the Asia-Pacific region.

The delegation's visit was focused on institutional benchmarking, with the objectives of observing APCD's facility environment, exchanging knowledge on core service programs including early intervention, daily living support, and social integration, and gaining insights into APCD's  Disability-Inclusive Development models that support independent living for persons with disabilities.

Following the welcoming session, the visitors proceeded to observe APCD's 60+ Plus Vocational Training for Persons with Disability for Employability program, implemented under the APCD Foundation's Disability-Inclusive Business (DIB) initiative. The delegation also visited the 60+ Plus Bakery & Chocolate Café, a Disability-Inclusive Business that serves as both a training venue and a real employment opportunity for persons with disabilities, allowing the visitors to witness firsthand how the DIB model connects vocational skills development with actual employment outcomes.

The Yeonggwang County Branch expressed deep appreciation for APCD's professional and inclusive approach, noting that the experience would serve as a valuable foundation for enhancing the quality of services provided to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their home province.

APCD looks forward to continued collaboration and mutual exchange with the Jeonnam Association for Persons with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities in the years ahead.

Liliane Fonds & APCD Launched CBR/CBID Centres of Excellence Workshop, 7-9 April 2026, in Bangkok.

Liliane Fonds and APCD co-hosted the Inception Workshop on Community-Based Rehabilitation/ Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBR/CBID) Centres of Excellence (CoE) from 7 – 9 April 2026, at Ibis Hotel Bangkok Siam, Bangkok.

As the famous saying, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." Thirty-three representatives, practitioners from fifteen Asian countries, proved this true as they gathered in Bangkok. They turned decades of grassroots wisdom into a shared vision for the future.

Mr. Piroon Laismit, APCD Executive Director, opened the workshop with warm welcome remarks. Mr. Gerrit De Vries, Director of Programmes at Liliane Fonds, delivered inspiring opening remarks. Mr. Ghulam Nabi Nizamani, Chairperson of the CBR/CBID Asia-Pacific Network, served as Master of Ceremonies (MC).

The three-day workshop showed that "actions speak louder than words." Ms. Christy Abraham and Ms. Deepthi Narayan Shanbhag, independent consultants, led interactive sessions that transformed shared experiences into clear commitments. Through lively group work, participants mapped key areas of change and agreed on establishment of CBR/ CBID CoE in Asia. The CoE will serve as a significant entity in Asia to promote inclusion, leadership of persons with disabilities, regional and intersectional collaboration, exchange and knowledge sharing.

This milestone event reminded everyone that "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Liliane Fonds and APCD took that first step toward a collaborative platform that advanced disability rights and inclusive development across the region. Together, they showed that "unity is strength" in building a world where no one was left behind
