On 15 June 2025, the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD), in collaboration with the Dao Ruang Group - Thailand's first self-advocate group for people with intellectual disabilities conducted a training session titled The Basics of Disaster Preparedness. Supported by APCD, the training aimed to enhance participants' foundational understanding of Disability-inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR).

The session featured interactive drills using the Disaster Duck educational model, designed to teach participants how to effectively prepare for and protect themselves during various types of disasters. The session also incorporated a case study from Japan, which served as a model to demonstrate best practices in disaster preparedness, This included accessible alert systems, the design of inclusive shelters, and the development of comprehensive response strategies to ensure that no one is left behind.

This session successfully emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness by equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills for staying safe during emergencies. Through hands-on exercises and inclusive training methods, participants gained a solid understanding of what actions to take when disasters occur.

Mr. Somchai Rungsilp, Manager of the Community Development Department at APCD, and Mr. Narongril Wallaiabphan, President of the Dao Ruang Group, jointly delivered the opening remarks and emphasized the importance of the training session, which aimed to raise awareness and understanding of disaster preparedness for persons with disabilities.
