APCD representatives joined colleagues and friends at a memorial event for Senator Monthian Buntan on 2 March 2026. Senator Monthian Buntan is a prominent Thai advocate for disability rights and a visually impaired former senator known for promoting accessibility, particularly for the blind. The former APCD Executive Board member and a legend leader with visual impaired passed away two years ago, but his impact shaped two decades of disability inclusion work since APCD was established.
The ceremony took place at Room 107, Thailand Association of the Blind (TAB). More than a hundred people attended in the room, and others watched via Facebook Live hybrid, along with a memorandum ceremony event at a school for the blind in Pare province. Following the panel discussion, three speakers and one moderator who worked closely with Senator Monthian Buntan shared his great commitment and passion to work with relevant stakeholders during his life, from childhood to working age. Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen, Chief of Networking and Collaboration, and Ms. Supaanong Panyasirimongkol (NuNu), Networking and Collaboration Officer, attended on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability at TAB office.
Senator Monthian Buntan dedicated more than a decade to disability development in Thailand and globally to advancing accessibility rights and policy reform. His wisdom guided the Thailand disability movement through transformative growth periods. Colleagues remembered his passionate advocacy and gentle leadership. The gathering honored a lasting legacy that continued to inspire inclusive development across the region.
