Disability Equality Training （DET） Facilitator Training (FT) 2024:

Introduction

APCD, in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and DET Forum, will hold 2^nd online Facilitator Training (FT) in the Asia Pacific Region.
We had 84 applications to the 1^st DET FT, and 20 persons with disabilities from 12 countries successfully completed the course. You may read report from below:

Disability Equality Training （DET）

DET is a powerful tool that empowers individuals to create an inclusive society for all, by promoting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Imagine being a part of the team that trained 80,000 volunteers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, that's exactly what DET did.
With a global reach in over 39 countries, DET is making waves in promoting disability education worldwide.
Its three key characteristics: rooted in the social model of disability, the use of discovery learning, and the requirement of a facilitator who is a person who experienced disabilities, make it a unique and effective tool.
All in all, DET is a vital tool in building a society that is inclusive of all, and with your participation in this online training, you will be equipped to play a role in promoting this cause.

Learning Course Details:

Program / Schedule

The program will run from 1 March – 2 August 2024
Program Breakdown:
- OnDemand Learning: 7 modules, expected learning hours: 35 hours
- Live Online Schooling: 5 times/days, 2 hours session
- Practice (”in-person (onsite)” at your local area): expected learning hours practice (3 hours), preparation (7 hours)

Application Conditions

The course is open to individuals who have experienced disabilities in terms of discrimination and exclusion, and are committed to promote inclusion in our society.
Participants must have access to the internet and be proficient in using a PC, including the following software/applications:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (or equivalent software)
- Zoom (at least able to: switch on/off microphone & video, write in chat, share your monitor, change view setting)
- WhatsApp
- Google: Forms, Document, Chat Space
Participants must have an understanding of English and be able to communicate effectively in the language. This includes the ability to understand the textbook for the course, "Doing Disability Equality Training" by Kenji Kuno (2012). The textbook is available for download at https://detforum.com/resources-links/.
We open this course for all countries. However, applicants from Asia Pacific region will be prioritized. Also, it is compulsory to attend all live online sessions, which will be 11:00 – 13:00 in Thailand (GMT: 4:00-6:00).

Participants are responsible for covering the cost of internet access and any expenses associated with organizing in-person DET practice sessions, such as reasonable accommodation (e.g. sign language interpreter, if necessary) and other expenses.

Reasonable Accommodation

OnDemand Learning: All videos come with subtitles and materials are provided in PDF format. Word/Excel/PowerPoint versions can be requested.
Online live schooling: speech-to-text and chat will be used to ensure accessibility.
Onsite DET practice: Participants are responsible for ensuring information accessibility and reasonable accommodation during in-person practice sessions and covering the associated costs. APCD/DET Forum will not be responsible for these costs.

　Requirement for Completion & Certificate

Participants who successfully finish the course (described below) will receive a course completion certificate.
Those who successfully finish the course will be registered at DET Forum as "registered DET Facilitators".
Completion Requirements: Participants must fulfill followings:

OnDemand Learning: Submit all answers to 6 modules by the designated deadline. Each module has for 2 submissions.
Online Schooling (live): Participate in all schoolings.
Online DET Practice (a part of Online Schooling): Prepare and conduct assigned parts of DET as a facilitator.
Onsite DET Practice: Prepare and conduct DET as a facilitator and submit a report and analysis by the deadline.
Material Translation: Submit translations of the following materials in your local language: DET Tools (including PowerPoint, 4 formats to use in exercises) and subtitle of DET video, “I am you” (optional: other 9 short videos).
Course Feedback: Submit your feedback of DET FT by the deadline.

Please note that participants who do not meet these submission deadlines may be stopped from participating in the course.
Online schooling will be recorded (video, photograph) and may be used for the purposes of publication.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be registered as “Registered DET Facilitators” at DET Forum and will receive a certificate of completion.

Opportunities after Completing the DET FT as a Registered DET Facilitator

Utilize the resources provided by DET Forum, such as videos and PowerPoints, to implement DET.
Connect and share information and experiences with other DET facilitators from 41 countries through the online DET Facilitators Platform.
Stay updated with new materials and information from APCD and DET Forum.
Contribute to the continued development of DET by becoming a DET country coordinator or DET FT tutor.

The Memorandum of understanding (MOU) made between DPI-Korea and APCD to implement the Jakarta Declaration in 2024 included discussion about future collaboration between APCD and DPI-Korea on 27 February 2024.

On the 19th of July 2023, the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) organized a comprehensive training program titled "Understanding Customers and Colleagues with Disabilities" at the Centra by Centara Government Complex Hotel.

On 22 November 2021, APCD hosted an orientation for the World Endeavors online interns.

Ms. Kunyanut Aeksintong, Accounting Assistant; Ms. Areeya Wannasuriya, shop supervisor on 60+ Bakery & Chocolate Café at the Government House; and Mr. Krittamed Saman, a former intern, shared direct experiences coming across COVID-19 infections. The discussions were about the symptoms, the medical services, and the recovery stage, etc.

Mr. Somchai Rungsilp, Community Development Manager, and Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen, Chief of Networking and Collaboration, participated in the dialogue.

All participants of the AAN Executive Board from 7 countries, including APCD and the Secretariat.

Mr. Somchai Rungsilp, the Community Development Manager, provided an overview of APCD and the several outcomes of TCTP for persons with disabilities in ASEAN countries.

During the visit, the APCD Executive Director and APCD team gave H.E. Mr. Tumur Amarsanaa, Mongolian Ambassador to Thailand, and his advisor (left hand) chocolate box sets produced by Thai persons with disabilities as a gift of thanks.

More than hundred attendees, the governmental representatives, workers, employers, youth groups, researchers, private sectors, and relevant partners of the Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth, who attended the webinar.

Ms. Patcharee Srisala, Director of Opportunity Promotion and Monitoring for Persons with Disabilities from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP), presented the significance of the loaning scheme to improve the lives of Thai persons with disabilities and shared a case study of the scheme's achievements.

A representative of the hospital staff at Thammasat University Field Hospital received meal boxes donation made by persons with disabilities on 5 October 2021. The donation was from M.L. Sujira Ngon-rot.

On 5 October 2021, Mr. Christopher Benjakul, APCD Public Relations Officer, presented box sets (freshly baked pastries and beverages) to homeless people who live on Ratchadamnoen Avenue.

Mr. Somchai Rungsilp, Manager of the Community Development Department, shared his experience in organizing the 4th Asia-Pacific CBID Congress in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in 2018. It was informative for preparation to organize the upcoming CBID Congress for the Working Group. Cambodia Government will be the host of the 5th CBID Congress in 2023.

Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen, Chief of Networking and Collaboration, and Ms. Siriporn Praserdchat, Logistics Officer, provided an update on APCD's regional works and followed up on a pending job delegated to the AAN Secretariat in Indonesia

Mr. Somchai Rungsilp, Community Development Manager, suggested that the activities on promoting CRPD which were done by Local Administrative Organizations (Laos) in Thailand should be shared in the activity report as a contribution from the local government.

APCD participated in the preparation meeting with TICA staff, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) staff, and Thailand’s implementing agencies.

On June 16, the 60 lunch boxes were distributed to medical professionals of the Prasat Neurological Institute for Thailand.

Report of the UN Development System's aid to Thailand for "Leaving No One Behind" was the most essential component in the discussion.
