HAITI: USAID Request for Applications Posting: HAITI REHABILITATION AND REINTEGRATION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES PROGRAM‏

Since the January 12 2010 earthquake in Haiti, there has been a tremendous outpouring of assistance from the international community to help the country recover. We at USAID are heartened by these expressions of interests in the reconstruction process, and we thank you for your interest in partnering with USAID in the health sector.

As our reconstruction efforts move forward, we are pleased to share with you a Request for Applications (RFA) that was posted on March 14th, 2011 on www.grants.gov. USAID is requesting applications from qualified organizations to implement the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Persons with Disabilities Program to achieve the following results:

1) Between 4 and 6 service centers developed or strengthened, with the ability to provide services in the areas of surgical interventions, provision of mobility aids, physical rehabilitation, psycho-social support, and vocational programs for persons with disabilities, with adequate referral services available when necessary
2) Trained health staff, including 100-150 rehabilitation technicians, 20-40 prosthetists/orthotists, and 50-100 physical/occupational therapists, to support service providers and other Ministry of Health (MOH) sites
3) Strengthened Ministries of Health and Social Affairs to ensure government organizations have the capacity to create and enforce guidelines, standards, and monitoring processes related to persons with disabilities
4) Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs) and local organizations working for people with disabilities established and working more effectively to support the rights of persons living with disabilities through advocacy and education
