For many, many years, we've had individuals getting away with free money while they go to other places and work claiming disability.

Special needs preschoolers on rise in city

By comparison, preschool classes wrapped up three years ago with 482 students with disabilities.

It’s actually a section from a verbal description of one of the works in VSA Vermont’s Engage exhibition featuring 35 Vermont artists with disabilities. My disability affects navigation. No straight lines, many dots, many spirals. This is one way, through verbal description, to navigate and find meaning in an art exhibit.

It was 1911, so obviously there were serious physical challenges he would have to overcome. But those paled in comparison to how his classmates treated him because of his disability.

Submitted by Nizamani on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 10:44But, lest that formulation lead us into the error of making rights conditional on some sort of effective performance as a difference-maker (so that the child, born or unborn, with the disability, the aged, with the intellectual disability and so on, are ruled out), we have to define the making of a difference in terms that bring in the sort of thing that Sarah Bachelard draws attention - the "difference" that is my sense of wonder at the unique otherness of the other.
